Last Sunday was quite a dark one for the unit of Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. They were all shooting in Andalucia, south of Spain, when Katrina and her sister suddenly went missing.

On Sunday morning, when the unit gathered for breakfast, Katrina didn't tum up. Presuming she was sleeping till late, Farhan Akhtar and others started joking about her laziness. But people began panicking when Katrina and her sister Isabelle (who had joined the crew some time ago) were nowhere to be found. When the sisters did not surface by evening, some people thought about informing the pOlice. The unit decided against it and chose to send out a search party to find the two women. But just then, Katrina and her sister emerged from nowhere.

Says a source from the unit, "This was late in the evening. We were all wondering what to do when Katrina suddenly showed up with her sister. The girls had lost their way in the mountain."
When contacted, Katrina confirmed the incident with a nervous giggle, "Yeah, Isabelle and I did get lost in Andalucia. It was the day off from shooting.

We both love the mountains.We took off early in the morning, on our own, thinking we would be back by breakfast. But while exploring the enchanting Little town, we were hooked on its beauty." Both the girls were mistaken for locals because they didn't speak at all with people on the way. Katrina continues, "Somewhere during the day we lost our way on a deserted stretch. We had no map, no water, no food. On this stretch,
there was not a single soul in sight. It was scary but fun."

Reminiscing the incident, Katrina is far from looking distressed; she longs to go back to Andaluda. "Not for work, just to have fun . Me and my sisters," she says. Sure Katrina, just carry a map next time.

Aamir was invited on board Ghajini by film's villain

Aamir Khan's Ghajini may be running to packed houses, but not many know that it was the film's villain Pradeep Rawat who got the superstar interested in the movie that was originally made in Tamil.

"Aamir Khan usually has Diwali parties at his house. It was at one of these parties that Pradeep Rawat, who has worked with him in a couple of films like Lagaan and Sarfarosh, told him about the film," said Madhu Mantena, one of the producers of Ghajini.

Rawat had played the villain in the Tamil version that starred Surya and Asin Thottumkal in the lead roles.

"Rawat told him that he had just worked in a film down south that had become a huge hit and now the producers wanted to remake it in Hindi. Mr. Khan saw the film, liked it and was immediately on board," Mantena, who is COO of Sa Re Ga Ma films division, said.

Rawat, Asin and director A.R. Murugadoss are the common links between the Tamil version and the Hindi remake.

Then why is Surya, the lead actor of the Tamil version, not part of the film?

"If you have a chance of producing a film with Aamir Khan, would you go for producing it with Surya?" the producer quipped.

Mantena, who worked as CEO of Ram Gopal Varma's Factory for four years, said being a producer was his long-term ambition and he could not have thought of a better project for his maiden venture.

Allu Arvind, one of the biggest producers down south, had bought the rights of Ghajini and was planning to remake it in Hindi.

"As we have been partners for a long time, Allu Arvind offered me to produce the film and I thought it was the best offer to venture into my long-time ambition of being a producer," Mantena said.

Mantena said he now plans to dub the film in Spanish and release it in the US and Spain in about two months' time.

"Usually most big films are dubbed in German and released in Germany, but we are dubbing Ghajini in Spanish because I feel Spanish emotions are very close to Indian emotions."

He said that though Spain has a small market, it would get good play in the US.

"The Spanish community is the second largest community after the Americans in the US. So we plan to give it a mainstream Spanish release in the US. We are mainly targeting the west coast and Mexican borders that have a huge Spanish population," Mantena said.

Salman V/S Katrina… the battle begins!

Katrina Kaif who is all set to perform at JW Marriott in Mumbai for the forthcoming new year’s eve for a whopping one crore this year is all set to battle it out with beau Salman, as he will be performing at Sahara Star, another five star hotel on the same day according to our sources.

“Salman has been in talks with Sahara Star as they had approached him to perform for the New Year’s Eve and the money that they are offering him is not out as yet. Salman will be joined by Arbaaz , Sohail and Malaika”, revealed our source.

We spoke to Katrina’s business manager Sandhya to get a clearer picture and she said, “I am not aware about Salman but yes Katrina is performing at JW. Bosco is choreographing her act which will have few songs of hers. Since both Katrina and Bosco are in Goa to shoot for Rajkumar Santoshi’s film ‘Ajab Prem Ki Gajab kahani’ the meeting of the selection of songs for her act has not yet happened. It will only happen when she back from Goa in a few days as she will be back to Mumbai to promote Yuvvraaj soon.”

When probed about the huge money that Katrina has asked for the show Sandhya retorted, “I am not aware of it. Also the duration for the show is not exactly known but last year Bipasha performed on two songs for few minutes, Katrina cannot perform for an hour. Also as far Katrina shuttling to another venue to perform in another show is concerned, the event organizers itself wont like it. There is no question of Katrina willing or not willing to share the stage with anyone (Salman).”

When we spoke to Salman’s spokesperson Alok Mathur he replied, “Nothing has been confirmed about the show as yet. The talks might be on.” However, when we messaged Malaika Arora Khan about the same she almost confirmed the news saying, “I am not performing at that event but Arbaaz might.”

Last year it was Rakhi who outsold Bipasha and made more profit for Sahara inspite of the hotel charging more than JW for Bipasha! We wonder what will happen this year!

Katrina Kaif's 200 gown trial

 

Actor Katrina Kaif may be in Philadelphia at the moment, but we get to learn some wonderful things about the girl from friends back home. Apparently, the girl tried on over 200 gowns when she flew down to Delhi last. Were they wedding gowns?

Naah! Kat went all the way to Delhi to spend an entire day with designers Gauri and Nainika, and tried over 200 gowns for her role in Subhash Ghai's Yuvraaj . Her look in the film can best be described as classic and regal, so much so that her dress code included empire line waistlines and Grecian gowns! Of course every gown gave a different effect, and Kat was keen to zero in on her costumes way in advance. It looks like the effort has paid off!

It can be remembered that for a song in Singh Is Kinng , the actor had flown all the way to Dubai to shop for a dress she thought would be 'perfect'. And producer Vipul Shah was thrilled at her enthusiasm. It's another thing altogether that Sallu had co-incidently taken off to Dubai, too. But what's the harm in mixing some business with pleasure, huh?

Katrina : I’m not getting married

It’s that time of the year again – the time when gossipmongers rear their heads to announce that Katrina Kaif is getting married to Salman Khan.

The most interesting fact is that rumour mills even decide dates and mahurats for the multiple (and, apparently, annual) Sallu-Kat weddings they’ve organised in the recent past.

This time, the grapevine says that the wedding is going to happen ‘very soon’ and ‘only close friends and relatives will be a part of it’.

Well, Kat remains unperturbed. When we asked her about the rumours, she replied, “These rumours are completely false and ridiculous. I am not getting married. These are silly people playing games by spreading these rumours. I’d also like to add that I’m booked every day of this year already for my films.”

So she’s precluded the possibility of getting married any time again this year. Then why is it that people don’t stop talking about Salman and her and why don’t the two of them take a stand on this? “It is because people know that both Salman and I do not comment on our private lives ever,” she answers.

Occasions where similar rumours have been spread before:

The first time these rumours surfaced was when Salman came to Kat’s rescue by lodging a formal complaint with the police against Mumbai’s 25-year-old Vasant Giri for sending vulgar text messages to Katrina.

It was said that since Salman had openly supported Kat, the next thing surely would be marriage.
Rumour no 2 – Gossipmongers said that Katrina and Salman secretly married before an award ceremony in Singapore. This was done, purportedly, to teach a lesson to Abhiash who were going to tie the knot soon after. Katrina had dismissed the rumour, saying that it was “utter rubbish”.

The third rumour was that Katrina and Salman had secretly married in the presence of a maulvi in Mumbai. When we contacted Kat on the same day, she said, “I’m in South Africa shooting with Saif Ali Khan.”
nAnd more recently, Katrina walked out of a press meet in Delhi’s Kamala Nehru College because somebody asked her if Salman actually slapped her at a café in Mumbai.

I don’t understand new age cinema says actor Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif is looking forward to greater acceptance after her next release ‘Namastey London’
Shy and reticent, Katrina Kaif has a phobia of the media just like her boyfriend Salman Khan. She clearly has been instructed to give to-the-point answers. But her vulnerability manages to peek out once in a while even when she is doling out short, clipped and what suspiciously seemed like rehearsed answers. Ask her a remotely awkward question and she goes back into her shell, like a true Cancerian.
To get her out of it, one needs to broach the topic of her next release, ‘Namastey London’ where she co-stars with Akshay Kumar, which she is most excited about at the moment.
Playing a role close to her own life of a girl who struggles to settle down in India after being brought up in a totally different culture in London, Katrina says, “I could identify quite a bit with the role. But the girl’s character is not like mine at all. The situations might be similar but I might have not reacted the way the girl in the film does.” Katrina is hoping to be taken more seriously as an actor after this film.
She says, “This film is very important to my career in the sense that the role is etched out so well and I have had a great scope to perform. I hope to be accepted better after this film.”
Tell her she is looking lovely in the promos and she doesn’t look too happy. She says, “I just hope people also see something beyond that. There is something much deeper than what you just see in the promos,” with eyes downcast, as if saddened by the fact that not many know the real Katrina.
She says she loves being a part of the industry — because ‘if you are honest, you are readily accepted.’ But there is something about the industry which irks her too. “I can do without people forming opinions and jumping to conclusions without really knowing me.”
Ask her what kind of films she is really interested in, she says, “I don’t understand new age cinema. All I know is good cinema and bad cinema, and I obviously want to be part of good cinema, small or big,” she says finally flashing a smile. Since she is new to the industry, does she take boyfriend Salman’s help in choosing a film? Kat hastily retreats back into her shell and says, “No, I do that on my own.”
