Ego clashes between two co-stars on the sets of a film is a director’s worst nightmare. And that’s just what is giving Blue’s director Anthony D’Souza sleepless nights.
Actors Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar’s ego battle is proving to be hazardous to this film they have surprisingly consented to do together.
We hear that owing to Sanju’s demands, the shoot scheduled for Feb 22 had to be canceled. While some claim that Sanju is putting off shooting with Akshay, many say that Akshay too hasn’t done anything particular to make Sanju comfortable.
Little does everyone remember that the Sanjay-Akshay jhadga dates back to 1994, owing to an incident while working together on Raj Sippy’s Amaanat.
Recalls our reliable source, “Akshay was relatively new in the industry then and Raj was planning to picturise a song on him.
When Sanjay got to know about this, he managed to convince Raj to do the song with him instead of Akshay. And Raj had consented.
15 years down the line, Akshay is still nursing a grouse against Sanjay. He tactfully skirted around the topic and even reminded Sanjay of the Amaanat episode. Things get really difficult when the two are together on the sets.”
Director Anthony though prefers to put a brave face and says, “I don’t have any issues on my shoots.
Sanjay and Akshay will be shooting together only from March 1 and our sets are bring readied. The story about whatever happened on Feb 22 isn’t true.”
From Sanjay’s side, Dharam Oberoi, CEO of Sanjay Dutt productions, says, “Akshay and Sanjay have no issues. The two exchange hugs every time they bump into each other.”
However, a source close to actress Lara Dutta, who is also a part of Blue says, “We were informed that there’s a shoot on Feb 22. But just a few days before the shoot, Lara was told that the shoot was canceled.”

Rock On (drama)
Cast: Farhan Akhtar, Prachi Desai, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Luke Kenny

IF you really want to see how Bollywood has matured and come of age, then here's the perfect litmus test. For Rock On is a film that not only breaks new ground in terms of its subject matter -- now when has desi movielore ever tackled something akin to Hollywood's That Thing You Do -- it creates a whole new EQ (emotional quotient) for mainstream cinema. Of course, there is the great passion reminiscent of Dil Chahta Hai , but here, there is a poise and a restraint that portrays the friendship between four rock musicians, with all its ups and downs. The bonds are strong, but there are the dark sides too, like rivalry, physical violence, the fear of failure....Yet, no one hollers, no one screams and ever so often, you feel a tug at your heart.
The film traces the relationship between the four buddies from college days until their stagnant thirties, when the band has been disbanded due to interpersonal rivalries and the foursome has drifted apart. The lead crooner, Farhan Akhtar is an investment banker who has stuffed away the memorabilia of the past in the attic of his well-ordered house. The lead guitarist, Arjun Rampal, is a miserable man, echoing the anguish of an artiste who cannot go commercial, even if his family struggles with bread and butter concerns. Purab Kohli, the kick-ass drummer, is now selling jewellery in his father's store, while Luke Kenny is literally dying of frustration, strumming tunes for Anu Malik. It's left to Prachi Desai, Akhtar's lonely young wife, to forge a reunion and bring the band together for a final concert that almost takes your breath away and has you cheering, as you did in Chak De and Lagaan .
Surprisingly, everything falls in place in this refreshing, new film. Farhan Akhtar's vocals are absolutely fundoo, even as the foursome pitch in perfectly orchestrated performances. If you actually had to choose, then the vote would go for Arjun Rampal who displays a newfound maturity and looks absolutely groovy with his windblown hair and his guitar-strumming stance. Farhan Akhtar too is a surprise package, delivering a well nuanced portrayal of a rock star-turned-boring-yuppie. The girls, Prachi, Koel and Shahana, are riveting too.
But finally, it's the message of the film that makes it a winner. Follow your dreams and life will literally be on song!
Never mind if Tashan and Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic weren’t eventful. Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is all set to bring back Yash Chopra’s lost glory.
Looks like Shah Rukh Khan will prove to be their lucky charm once again after Chak De... India. At least that’s what numerologist Niraj Mancchanda predicts.
He tells us, “Rab Ne... will be the biggest hit of 2008. It comes to number 42 just like Dil Toh Pagal Hai did and that number vibrates with both Yash Chopra who is a number 9 and Aditya Chopra who is a number 3. The movie may might break records.” So, SRK need not worry about losing his throne or crown.
That Shahid Kapoor is a man of few words is fairly well-known. After maintaining a dignified silence over his much-publicised break-up with longtime girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, the only thing he wants to talk about is work. 
De Taali (comedy)
Cast: Aftab Shivdasani, Riteish Deshmukh, Ayesha Takia, Rimii Sen

THE funniest line of the film comes as a graffiti scrawled on the friendship wall. 'Amu is a Boy,' is boldly scrawled on the walls of the tree house by the trio of friends which includes Abhi (Aftab Shivdasani), Paglu (Riteish Deshmukh) and Amu (Ayesha Takia). Obviously Amu is the archetypal one-of-the-boys girls in this backslappers club, despite her two plaits and her red nails. Ironically, the film is unable to cash in on this cute camaraderie between three best friends and gets into schmaltzy terrain that threatens to smother the laughs, time and again. Purely a case of comedy gone sour.
Now that's sad, specially since the film throws up some interesting characters and some goofy acting that could have augured well for a breezy comic act. Trouble begins in this light-hearted drama when ebullient Amu loses her heart to her best friend Abhi, just when he seems to have finally found true love after 31 aborted tries. Trouble turns somewhat zany when the friends (Amu and Paglu) discover the newfound love interest (Rimii Sen) in their friend's life is a cunning gold digger who has run away from home and sent innumerable men to support groups for the alcoholic. The friendly duo kidnaps the bride-to-be and hopes to cure their friend of his obsession. But love, ah! And bad girls, ah!
The film gets too long and repetitive, even though it has its funny moments. Rimii Sen joins the galaxy of glam-crooks that have been parading the hall of fame this year.
Former Miss World, Yukta Mookhey is making her much delayed comeback in a film called Memsaheb.
And we must admire the guts of the makers who have put up larger than life hoardings of Yukta all over the city.
“This is my best performance till date,” a source quoted her as saying. Really? Which other performances is she talking about? Anyway the big question is.. are we really interested to see this Memsaheb on the big screen?
Haal-e-Dil (romance)

ANYONE for Jab We Met minus its zing? Anyone for a long train journey from Mumbai to Kalka, which is supposed to be romantic but ends up as tedious and almost derailed?
There's a serious-looking girl in specs who's on a train to Simla. She meets a funny looking boy who is determined to make a pest of himself with his magic shows that include stealing some radish and carrots from the fields en-route. Soon, her haal-e-dil grows quite serious, as she keeps dreaming of her boyfriend in Simla and flirting with the boy on her berth.
Unlike Jab We Met , you can't wait for this journey to end.
Sarkar Raj (drama)
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai
Direction: Ram Gopal Varma
THIS film carries the sequel forward without losing out on the gritty feel and retains the charisma of the central characters, mafioso leader Subhash Nagre (Amitabh Bachchan) and his son, Shankar Nagre (Abhishek Bachchan).
The Nagre duo that first emerged as the indigenous Corleone family on the Indian screen in Sarkar is still living with social sanction and unprecedented popular support despite being on the wrong side of the law.
The father has taken a back seat and left the business of governance to his son, who seems to have become more ruthless after killing his own brother (Kay Kay Menon) in Sarkar . But like his father, he has the welfare of Maharashtra at his heart and is hell bent on giving his state the multi-national power project which the NRI business executive (Aishwarya Bachchan) would like to set up in India. The power project turns out to be just a ruse for a change in governance and unleashes a whole nexus of wheelers and dealers who are determined to cut short the power reign of the Nagres. Time for the aging tiger to roar again and let loose his vengeance on those who dared to harm his family, his people....
Ram Gopal Varma gets back into the saddle after a spate of flops which affected his brand equity. He falls back on the subject -- gang warfare -- and the style of cinema he knows best. His camera follows the angles it excels in, plastering the screen with extreme close-ups of his protagonists. Of course, it does help when the faces in full view are extremely emotive and reflect the myriad emotions of anger, pain, passion and revenge with a mere muscle flick. The Bachchan trio -- Amitabh, Abhishek, Aishwarya -- emerge as consummate actors, imbuing their characters with nuances and shades not easily seen in mainstream cinema. But eventually, it is the structure of the film that succeeds above all else.
Ramu's characteristic dark brooding palette of shadow and light and his forte at laying bare the undercurrents of violence in urban society take you on a reassuring trip through familiar terrain.
Nothing experimental, nothing new; just a return to the tried and tested form which first raised its head in films like Shiva , Satya , Company , Sarkar ....Yes, you may have your quarrels with the ideology of the film and the validity it seeks to give to outlaws like Subhash and Shankar Nagre, but you will applaud the style and the performances.
Mr White Mr Black (comedy)
Cast: Arshad Warsi, Suneil Shetty, Rashmi Nigam, Sandhya Mridul
Direction: Deepak Shivdasani
SOMETIMES, it surprises you with the choices that men make, specially actors. If, last week, it was Anil Kapoor who aggrieved you with his incoherence as Bhaiyyaji in Tashan, this week Arshad Warsi makes you wonder wassup mister! Now why would an actor who has already proven his calibre, both at the box office and with the fastidious cineaste, say yes to such a brainless film? As Kishen, the small time trickster who leaves his village in Hoshiarpur to earn the title of Mr Fraud in Goa, Warsi is whiny, woe-begone and completely wasted. All his attempts to tickle your funny bone and kick up a storm end up as desperate measures to seek meaning in the mess. And if that's not enough despair, there's Ashish Vidyarthi, another talented actor, trying to make a comeback in Hindi cinema with a parody of himself. Surely, considerations of quality must be more important than quantity in Bollywood too!
For the no-brainer script, there is just this: Mr White (Suneil Shetty) comes to Goa to take Mr Black (Arshad Warsi) back to Hoshiarpur to take possession of a land bequeathed by his father. In between, he meets an oversexed hotelier who cries ‘Kiss me, kiss me,' and gives him a chance to play Mr Bharat to the un-Bharatiya lady. Meanwhile Mr Black is not ready to give up his life as a dirty rotten scoundrel, specially when he overhears some talk of some diamonds somewhere... Again, a heartbreak in store, as you watch sensible actress, Sandhya Mridul make a fool of herself as a tapori girl.
Really, why would anyone want to end up brain dead, even if comedy is the flavour of this silly season.
Tashan (drama)
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor

DESPERATELY seeking some scriptwriters for Yashraj Inc. After the no-brainer Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, get ready for another plot-dead film that tries to score on presentation alone. Sadly, there isn't even a zany, new age tashan to boast about here. There is a pathetic attempt to exploit the Nostalgia Inc, but unlike Om Shanti Om which made an art of retro, Tashan fails to whip up old-is-gold sentiment, despite rendering Amitabh Bachchan's seminal Deewar soliloquy before Bhagwan in tootie-frootie Angrezi and milking good old Gabbar dry. More importantly, the film fails to capitalise the Saif-Kareena chemistry completely and almost relegates Saif as a sidekick, a role he has ably played against Akshay Kumar in the 1990's with films like Main Khiladi Tu Anadi, etc. But what saddens you the most is the gangster act by Anil Kapoor. As the English-loving Bhai, hailing from small-town Kanpur, Kapoor is absolutely unintelligible and ends up a pale copy of Jaaved Jaafrey's rib-tickling cameo in Salaam Namaste. Now that from an actor of his calibre is absolutely heartbreaking.
So what's worth a dekko? Akshay Kumar as a small-time thug who dreams of becoming a big-time ‘sooter' (shooter) and a zero-size Kareena Kapoor in a bikini, recreating the oomph of Ursula Andress in Dr No. Akshay has progressed into a natural scene-stealer by now and simply walks away with the applause, be it action, comedy or emotion. As Bachchan Pandey, the goonda who is pulled out of Kanpur to work as a ‘recovery agent' for Bhaiyya ji (Anil Kapoor), Akshay creates a tashan that actually works. His job is simple. He must find the two fugitives, Saif and Kareena, who have walked away with Bhaiyya ji's moolah. And he does it with a pizzazz that makes the film work, in bits and pieces. Watch him jump around like Hanuman (or is it Keanu Reeves in Matrix) in a death-defying fight sequence or ward off the slutty con-girl Kareena and then get goofy and giddy in love: you'll join the audience as it applauds his antics with taalis and seetis.
That's it. After that, it's khallas. All the conmen and their crooked acts fail to create a jagged edge, even though you have Saif and Kareena trying to dupe any and everyone, including each other, in the frame. Truly, it's the season of wickedness in Bollywood. Yet, unlike the bhai versus bhai treachery of Race, this roulette of deceit and upmanship lacks sophistication. Stylistically, it is loud and gaudy and peppered with strange lyrics that make a mockery of Hinglish. No, this one's not really a film that lives up to the repute of YRF productions and can be viewed merely for moments of pleasure, whipped up by a manic Akshay.

Most Indian dances are based on the treatise Natyashastra by the sage Bharata Muni, which explains the Indian art of acting. Acting or Natya is a broad concept which encompasses both drama and dance.
The Natya Shastra was written by the sage “Bharata Muni” who, it is claimed, was directly inspired by GOD Brahma. The Natya Shastra is incredibly wide in its scope.
